Founded in 1841 The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) is the
professional and regulatory body for pharmacists and pharmacies in England, Scotland
and Wales.
ABC Pharmacies are governed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
The primary objectives of the RPSGB are to lead, regulate, develop and represent the
profession of pharmacy.
The RPSGB has responsibility for a wide range of functions that combine to assure
competence and fitness to practise. These include controlled entry into the profession,
education, registration, setting and enforcing professional standards, promoting good
practice, providing support for improvement, dealing with poor performance, dealing with
misconduct and removal from the register.
The Society is also responsible for protecting the safety of patients who use the
services of pharmacists and their pharmacies and regularly issues guidance to all
pharmacists to assist with this. ABC Pharmacy follow the guidance of The Society in
relation not only to our High Street outlets, but also to the operation of our web site.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has a series of other services available including
a library which is available not only to its members, but for a fee to non-members either
on a reference or subscription basis.
