IS WEIGHT LOSS ALL IN THE MIND?

16.09.2009 - 19363906

Weight loss could be all in the mind, a new study has suggested.

Research conducted by the Miriam Hospital has revealed that people who have managed to maintain a low weight for a number of years react differently to images of food.

The study found that when this group was shown pictures of food, areas of the brain associated with behavioural control and visual attention were more likely to be activated than for obese people.

Jeanne McCaffery, of the hospital's Weight Control and Diabetes Research Centre, said: "Our findings shed some light on the biological factors that may contribute to weight loss maintenance."

The study also provides a complement to previous research that suggests people who are able to maintain weight loss monitor their food intake closely, she added.

Yesterday, a study by the Second University of Naples suggested that a Mediterranean diet could help people lose weight, especially if they have diabetes.

The study might be of interest to those buying medication like <a href="http://www.abcpharmacy.co.uk/shop/products.aspx?store=generalPharmacy&brand=Xenical" target="_blank">Xenical</a>.
